• Clermont Senior Services and our customers have been victims of a recent rash of call spoofing and fraud, according to Network Administrator, Matthew Newberry. “Several people have called us to report receiving calls that appear to have come from our agency. Sometimes the caller ID number that shows on their phone, when calling it back, rings into our phone system.” Unwanted calls are by far the biggest consumer complaint to the FCC with over 200,000 complaints each year. Around 60 percent of all the complaints the FCC receive. Some private analysts estimate that U.S. consumers received approximately 2.4 billion robocalls per month. Unfortunately, advancements in technology make it cheap and easy to make robocalls and to spoof caller ID information to mask the caller’s true identity.

  We are concerned that some of our customers may fall prey to these instances of fraud. It is important that our customers and their caregivers know:

• Clermont Senior Services will never call without leaving a message
• We will never solicit private information over the phone.
• We do not call to sell products or services

If a call of this nature, or any suspicious call is received, Newberry suggests hanging up and calling Clermont Senior Services using the posted, public number: 513-724-1255. Caller ID cannot be trusted with these sophisticated phone scams.

Hopefully, the FCC and phone service providers will find a way to prevent this, but it will not be an easy fix and may not come for some time. In the meantime, we are committed to do all we can to help protect our customers from this type of fraud.
