When you’re in the middle of fighting a pandemic, it is important to stop and look for the good in the world. We at Clermont Senior Services have had a front row seat to some amazing community support. This is the story of how cookies made a difference.
Girl Scouts of Western Ohio’s cookie sales looked a little different this year. Just as local troops prepared to make their final push at cookie booths, they received word that all in-person sales must stop. For Girl Scouts, the money used from cookie sales are essential. Those dollars pay for things like camp outings, community service events, and so much more. Troop 49730 still had 18 cases of cookies to sell, and they needed to get creative. The parents in the troop put out a plea on their Facebook pages hoping to sell the rest of their cookie inventory. They asked friends to chip in any amount they could,to their cause so the cookies they still had could be donated to people in need. In just two weeks, the troop raised $869.00! To round out their fundraising goal, T and J Handyman Services chipped in the remaining funds needed.
Once the necessary funds were raised, the girls decided, as a troop, to donate their cookies to one of the most vulnerable populations in their community, the elderly. After speaking with Clermont Senior Services, it was decided that the cookies would be a great addition to the emergency pantry we operate, as well as, a nice treat for the residents of the apartment buildings we have throughout the county.
The generosity does not stop with that contribution! In addition to the amazing donation of cookies by Troop 49730, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio also donated cookies through their Cookies for a Cause program! Through the Cookies For A Cause program, cookies are donated to non-profit organizations like local foodbanks, military and veteran’s organizations, and healthcare nonprofits.
It is because of the generous spirit of our community during these unprecedented times, that we will all be stronger as a result. We are sad that the girls missed out on the end of their cookie season, but we are so grateful for their giving hearts for those who are often forgotten.
